I have been working for several weeks now on my next line of fabric. I’m not going to lie, this one has been a toughy for me. Not as tough as Sweet Divinity which took me 8 months to work out. But tough none-the-less. As I sit here, surrounded by my favorite things to design with, it makes me think about you and what gets your creativity going. I am always looking at colors, shapes, the way other people put things together. I believe that everyone has something that they can teach you, and I want to learn! So my eyes are always open. Sometimes one little thing will really get my mind going. For example, this was one of the things that inspired me for Sweet Divivinty….
It is a sippie cup. But after working for so many months on a line it was just the inspiration I needed. Someday maybe I will show you the early designs for Sweet Divinity. Maybe. If I can get to a point that I wouldn’t be too embarrassed!
My inspiration doesn’t always come from one thing. It could be a feeling or an emotion. Sugar and Spice was inspired by my BFF. So the whole time I was designing I was thinking about her and the things that she likes. It was crucial to me that she like every piece. The new line (working on a name…)? I am not sure what it is inspired by. Maybe that is why it is so hard!
There are a few things I like to have around when I am working. It seems if these things are around I enjoy myself much more. When I am happy, things go better!
I have to have a Diet Coke with lemon, preferably in my fabulous cup.
I have to have some good music. My choices are Black Eyed Peas (if I can find clean versions of the songs I like), Plain White T’s, Joshua Radin, Ingrid Michaelson, and Mindy Gledhill. Sometimes I just dance in my chair instead of working!
I have one other thing that I really love to have when I am working. A bouquet of fresh flowers.
Something about the smell makes me happy!
So I want to know what inspires you! What things do you like to have around when you are creating? Do share!
