An excerpt from The Complete Book of Color by Suzie Chaizzari says this about orange:
Psychologically speaking, colour therapists claim that orange is supposed to shore up the immunity system and stimulate digestion.
Orange is the "happy" colour par excellence. It frees emotions, promotes self-esteem and the capacity to forgive. This stimulating colour fights depression and cultivates good humour. Lighter hues such as peach and apricot, help restore nervous energy.
Those who often wear orange are active, competent and rather impatient. They are independent, motivated, competitive and well organized. They are also creative and practical people, full of energy and often incapable of staying put.
Orange combines red's and yellow's stimulating attributes. It is a "happy" hue with a strong personality that pleases active, self-confident people. It seems that dancers are often attracted to orange. Those who find orange too strong often find colours such as terra-cotta, peach or amber more acceptable as they only retain some of the attributes of orange.
I remember when orange was so-totally-not-cool. Then it became the new black (what does that mean anyway??). Now orange is much more mainstream. I love orange and I even had an orange kitchen at one point. Last night I finished designing a quilt with a fabric line called Summer Song by My Minds Eye for Riley Blake Designs. I was given a choice of three fabric lines to choose from when this particular company asked me to design a quilt for them. I was immediately drawn to this line because of the colors. Of course the pink helped, but I love the orange in this line.
There are two more color ways, so be sure to check them out. This line will be available in March. While we are on the subject, I just have to tell you what a wonderful company Riley Blake is. There is an amazing group of people that run the company and they have a ton of wonderful stuff coming out. So if you haven’t seen their stuff yet, be sure to look for it. And now back to orange….
I love orange flavored things (especially candy!) and orange scented things. I know that these aren’t technically color things, but I do think that they add dimension to the color orange.
Have a happy day!
